If you’re reading this then I’m going to make the assumption that you like me and millions of others out there love the latest gadgets and technology but how do you get the lowest prices and the hottest deals for these hot electrical items?

Well in this short article I’m going give you a few short hints and tips that could save you hundreds on your next purchase from the electrical store or online and can be used for any gadget/product you wish to buy.

In the worlds current economic meltdown that we are all experiencing its the perfect time to get those big companies working for your hard earned cash not only that play them off against each other, hey its a dog eat dog world look you’ve got to look after yourself and your cash!

Buying from the electrical store.

The first thing that you need to do is to plan your visit, many shops have clearance sales throughout the year and many of them now days will match the lowest price of their competitors, but don’t stop there make sure you ask the sales guy for some more discount not just to match the price other wise you might as well go back to their competitor and purchase from them instead and make sure you tell them this.

I bet they give to a little extra off because they want all the sales they can get in these hard times and even if its only £10/$20 it’s still a saving in your pocket!

Like most of us know the seasonal times of the year are great times to purchase items and save loads in the sales but this can also go against you when your asking for extra discount as the stores know that if your don’t purchase someone else will, so sometimes its best to wait till the hard/slow times of the year like February & March as Christmas is just staring to hit everyone hard with the credit card bills, also late September & October are also good as summer has just ended and everyone’s spent loads on their holidays & kids and they are just staring to think about Christmas so they start closing there wallets and thinking a little more before they purchase.

Do your research and make sure you know what you want to buy before you go out hunting, you don’t want to be drawn in by the sales guys jargon pitch on the next model up and accessories which cost twice as much and you never needed them in the first place. Check your products closest competitors’ to see if they match up and most of all if they can save you cash.

Make a list either on paper or in your mind of what you want and how much you are willing to spend and stick to it! If you are going to a big well know store make sure to check their website to see if there are any online/web only savings as quite often there can be.

Now my favorite of all....Haggle! Just go for it there’s no harm in trying and you never know unless you ask, it doesn’t have to be massive amounts of cash to haggle off just what you are realistically happy to pay. Haggling doesn’t have to stop there though, lets saying your buying a laptop if they are not budging on the price then ask them to throw in a carry case that you like and will need or a nice mouse, at the end of the day its something that you are not shelling out for and saving you cash.

My last tip that works for me more than any other when I’m haggling is don’t seem too interested in the product that your looking at purchasing, I’m not saying start calling it rubbish but make out that you are not bothered if your buy it or not and that you are happy enough to walk away, on the other hand you have to give him something to bite for him not walk away, almost all the time I have tried this the sales guy will see that I’m doing him a favor in purchasing and knows that if he doesn’t help me out with the price I’m going to walk and 9 times out of 10 they help you out!

Buying Online.

Now the first thing to do as its so easy to is to read a few customer reviews on the product you are looking at buying, this could save you hundreds if the product turns out to be rubbish and you will gain valuable knowledge, hints and tips.

Also make sure to check out your products competitors which could be identical but half the price. Finding the best prices can be easy and the best thing to do is use a few of those price comparison website that do all the running for you, ok they may not help you all the time but they only take 2mins to try so you might as well check them out.

Also check those cash back websites that can give you a nice cash back if you purchase through the links on there site which is still a saving at the end of the day. When you have found a site that has got a good price that you are happy to pay there are just three more little things that you need to do before your finalize your purchase.

1. Check that the site you are looking to buy from are kosher and that they are a repeatable company/site, the last thing you want to do is buy from some cow boys & con men that are out there. But please don’t let this put you off as its not as common as its sounds and can be avoided and here’s how, just search the company name in Google and flick through the first few pages and read the titles of the links, if there is anything bad about the site your will find it here. Another little safety tip is to find the company’s telephone number and address and make a note of them, just before your do order ring that number that you noted just to put your mind at ease.

2. Once you are happy that the company you are looking to purchase from is a reputable do a quick search in Google for the following, company name voucher or discount codes, this will find any online coupons that your chosen company has got which can save you loads in most cases.

3. And finally this is just to give you piece of mind from purchasing online, use your credit card as they all give you protection for goods usually over £100/$200 and if anything does turn out to be wrong with the product of it fails to arrive then it hasn’t come out of your pocket of hard earned cash, the only thing that you may have to pay for is the postage costs.
